  • Mood:

Tokyo. There, I said it. ^^;

This community looks kind of dead, but these are fun. ^^; I hope you don't mind.

Name and any aliases: Mariam, but I'm usually called Mari or Maki.
Birthdate: August 7th.
Gender: Female.
How many rating communities are you in?: Waaay too many. They're addictive.

Favorite bands/musicians: Plastic Tree, hide, X-Japan, Psycho le Cemu, Origa, Ayumi Hamasaki, Chihiro Onitsuka, Bump of Chicken, Hikaru Utada, Do as Infinity, Andrew Lloyd Weber, Queen, The Cure, The Smiths, The New Pornographers (despite the name, they're not dirty at all; actually, they're kind of happy), and way too many others. I love music. Maybe too much. ^^;
Favorite authors/mangaka/webcomic artists: Riyoko Ikeda, Kazuya Minekura, CLAMP, David Sedaris, C.S. Lewis, Shakespeare (shut up, I like his plays ;-;), and... the list goes on, really. I didn't bring many books with me to college, so I'm starting to forget.
Favorite stories (books, manga, whatever): Manga: Rose of Versailles, Oniisama e, Maria-sama ga Miteru, Shoujo Kakumei Utena, Stigma, Wild Adapter, Saiyuki, Death Note, and Anything by CLAMP. Books: Lord of the Flies, The Chronicles of Narnia (namely Prince Caspian and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe), Coin Locker Babies, Howl's Moving Castle, Hamlet, Othello, Love in the time of Cholera, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, The Lovely Bones, Snow Falling on Cedars, and... a lot more. Again, I can't really come up with them off the top of my head.
Movies you'd recommend to cool people: The Dead Poets' Society, Stage Beauty, Howl's Moving Castle, The Phantom of the Opera (though the musical was better, IMO), and that Utena movie, whose name I forget. There are plenty of others, but I can't seem to remember them right now.
Food you could snack on forever if health issues didn't get in the way: Green tea pocky, green tea ice cream, or green tea frappucinos. Anything with that flavor, since it's sweet, and yet for some reason I don't like the tea itself. Not sweet at all.

Hobbies: Drawing, sculpting, playing with cats (or animals in general, but cats don't jump on me and try to tear me up), listening to music, reading, movies, martial arts, studying other languages and cultures, and cosplay, among others.
Talents: I don't know. I feel like I'm bragging when I talk about my talents, and I don't want to. But I guess I'm sort-of good at art. I can pick up languages and instruments easily. (I love the piano. Love, love, love.)
Issues that matter to you: Anything involving animal rights, or human rights. Namely capital punishment, right to die, abortion, and gay marriage. If you want to ask me about those, go ahead (except for gay marriage, which I'm all for).
Issues you don't care about: I don't think there's anything I just don't care about, but there are some issues I care about more than others.
Things you talk about a lot because you like them: I don't talk a lot about much because I'm afraid of sounding obsessive, but if you mentioned a book or movie or something like that, and I liked it, then I might join in.
Things you don't talk about because you like them: Not really "things." More like "people."
Things you rant about: I really don't rant.
Things you'd like to rant about: I don't like to rant.
Your strengths: I can get along with all different kinds of people and I'm generally openminded. Sometimes my small circle of friends will dislike a certain person, but for whatever reason, I happen to make friends with them anyway. I'm very meticulous and hard-working when it comes to projects, but I'm not a workaholic. I can hold my own in a debate, but I'm not too opinionated. I also put others before myself.
Your weaknesses: Shy to a fault, submissive, kind of stubborn on some issues, and sometimes a little too trusting. I also tend to give at my own expense. One time, I emptied my pockets for a homeless man on the street, got lost on the train ride home and had no phone on me, but I couldn't use the pay phone because I'd given all my change away. In short, I'm a real loser. ^^;

What do people normally say about you (to others or to yourself)?: Either very funny, or very nice. Some people call me cute. Don't listen to them.
How do you normally introduce yourself?: I don't. ^^; I'm not the kind of person that will waltz right up to you and strike a conversation. If I'm not introduced to somebody by someone else, and I want to meet this "somebody," I just kind of hope for the best. And if they do end up talking to me, I melt into a big puddle of embarrassment.
You'd be absolutely mortified if...: I can't put my finger on it. Anything that deals with me being in public, really. I don't like having too much attention drawn to me. I get kind of scared. ^^;
You'd be elated if...: If my friends were happy. That's all I ask.
Do you tend to agree with people a lot or argue with people a lot?: In debates? I try not to argue, but stay strong. I make other people see my point, but not by attacking them. I just put it out there, plain for all to see. Then (and it really earns me brownie points and avoids a heated argument), I try to see things their way, too, and I let them know that. In general? It depends. I usually agree and go with the flow, but it really depends on the situation.
Do you talk to inanimate objects?: No.
Why or why not?: I feel kind of silly doing it, knowing that they don't listen or care. I talk to my cat the most, because while she listens, at least she can't talk back. And she's cute.
Finish this Engrish statement: The love can make the live become...: illiterate, obviously. ...happiness and sunshine?

Why do you like Tokyo Babylon?: I'm a big CLAMP fan. Their storylines are always very interesting, and the characters easy to like.
Who is your favorite character (major or minor)?: I can't decide. ^^; Like I said, they're all very easy to like.
What's your favorite TB arc?: "Smile."
Which is better: X or Tokyo Babylon?: I think the one thing that makes TB better than X is the fact that it doesn't have a movie where everyone gets beheaded and at the end Kamui hugs the head and not the rest of the body. You have no idea how much it amuses me to see him clutch a head and cry, and then in the background Toshi breaks out into "Forever love." Plus that was just X on crack. It didn't do the series justice.
Do you love Tokyo?: I've never been there, but I'd like to go.

Anything else you'd like to say? Not really.

Post some pictures and/or describe your physical appearance. You can also post pictures you've taken that aren't of you, like your room or fighting produce. I don't usually show strangers my pictures. I'm kind of self-conscious about it. So, to descrbe myself, I'm 5'3", and I'm a little on the scrawny side. I have Arab and Spanish in me, and I look the part, meaning I have dark eyes and hair. (Hair's black, but my eyes are really dark brown.) I'm not dark or anything; my skin's tan, and a little on the pale side. I'm actually probably the palest in the family. I'm also the only one in the family with straight hair. It's very short. The back barely touches my shoulders, and the front nearly frames my face. (At least some of it does; it's layered.) I also have bangs that cover my eyebrows, but not my eyes.

Oh... and this is my cat.
